A BRAVE bunch of local business men and women will tackle Africa’s highest mountain in aid of Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

BLGC vice president, Nick Hopkinson OBE will lead the intrepid group taking part in the mammoth trek up Mount Kilimanjaro between March 2 and 9.

Karen Edwards OBE, chief executive of BLGC said: “The challenge will raise money to support the club’s work with disadvantaged youngsters, particularly around our Enterprise projects and employability programmes.

“Youth unemployment is at its highest levels, and in Bolton we are working with young people who have little support and aspirations. The money raised will help change youngsters’ lives for the better.” Joining Mr Hopkinson will be Ralph D’Attorre from RDA Business Services Limited, John Cherrie JDC Communications, Tracey Bleakley and Chris Hodgen from Absolute Media, John King from Asons, Rob Lomax from Liquid Roofing, Donna Monks HR Manager at BLGC, Chris Cox from George Cox & Sons, Mark Sheen from Barlow Andrews and Graham Smith from Mono Alarms.

The team has chosen to take the Rongai route, which involves about 4,000 metres of ascent in just five days.

The Rongai Route is the longest and most scenic trekking route, and an early start on the last day will see the team reaching the highest point at Uhuru Peak (5894m).

Funds raised will be invested into the club’s enterprise programme and employability projects, which will support young people to go into further training or employment.
