HUNDREDS of photography fans were treated to a snapshot of Bolton’s past at the opening of an exhibition by veteran photographer Geoff Davies.

The Moments exhibition was launched at the Neo gallery in the Market Place shopping centre.

Mr Davies, who has Parkinson’s Disease, has been capturing life in the streets of Bolton and the North West for 45 years and the exhibition focuses on the people he has photographed.

He said: “I am very happy with the turnout, it is a nice feeling. I have had exhibitions before but being in my home town gives it a special edge because I love Bolton.”

The special guest at the opening of the exhibition was renowned former Guardian photographer Denis Thorpe.

He said: “I met Geoff after an exhibition of his work in Halifax.

“We talked and looked at his pictures and we felt like we had known each other for all our lives.

“We both shared the idea of capturing that human moment — and if you look around you can see that Geoff has captured that moment marvellously so many times.”

The exhibition runs at the gallery, next to Debenhams, on the top floor of Market Place, until Sunday, February 9, and is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
