THE funeral of a soldier killed in a car crash will be held tomorrow.
Fusilier Tony Emery, of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, died at the scene of the crash on St Peter’s Way on Monday, January 6.
The 24-year-old’s red VW Golf crashed near to the Kearsley roundabout.
His passenger, Paige Jeffrey, aged 20, suffered serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. She is still in hospital.
His funeral will be held at St Ethelbert’s RC Church in Deane at 10.30am. It will be followed by interment in Heaton Cemetery at noon with members of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in attendance.
Donations are asked to be given to the Fusilier Aid Society.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed.
