A CULTURAL festival featuring a play by Bolton stage and screen star Maxine Peake will be held to coincide with the launch of the Tour de France this summer.

The 100-day Yorkshire Festival will begin on March 27 and run until July 6 to mark the county’s hosting of the opening stages of the bike race, the Grand Depart.

West Yorkshire Playhouse will host Beryl, written by the actress, to celebrate the extraordinary sporting achievements of Yorkshire cyclist Beryl Burton.

Beryl is a specially-commissioned adaptation from the 39-year-old’s acclaimed 2012 Radio 4 play which marks her stage writing debut.
