THREE intrepid business people are swapping Bolton’s culture for one of the most ancient in the world when they take part in a charity trek in Peru.

Michelle Barrett, Mark Carroll and Sean Swimby will be leaving their desks at financial specialists Credit Claims in Manchester Road, Burnden, this April and venturing into the Lost City of the Incas.

Their 10-day adventure will take them to one of the Seven Wonders of the World — the majestic mountain Machu Picchu, 2,430 metres above sea level and the 15th century site of Inca civilisation.

Their journey along the Inca Trail has been organised by the Children Today charity, which buys custom-made wheelchairs and other medical equipment for disabled youngsters.

Mr Carroll and Mr Swimby were fresh from a 65-mile bike-ride to raise thousands of pounds for local children’s charities when they decided to take part in the challenging trek.

“When I met regional fundraiser Elizabeth Oakes and heard about the great work Children Today carries out with kids locally,” said Mr Carroll. I just felt I had to do more to help.”

Ms Barrett has also been heavily involved in raising money for children’s charities since the sudden death in 2011 of her sister, Lesley Anne, leaving three young sons.

She has already been involved in events for Children Today.

Her Peru trek has been supported by fitness instructor Vicky Holt. She takes Bokwa fitness classes at St James’ CE High School and Mount St Joseph’s School where members have raised £730 towards Michelle’s sponsorship.

Mrs Barrett’s sister died from a blood clot in 2011 aged just 34 at her home in Farnworth. Mrs Barrett now cares for her sister’s three sons, Alfie, Callum and Cameron. Other fundraising events include a curry night at the Achari Indian restaurant, a five-a-side football tournament at Leverhulme Park on Sunday and a paintballing day on February 9.
