THEY are usually found embroiled in a conquest of universal domination and extermination.

But Derek the Dalek, Bolton’s very own mechanical villain and enemy of Doctor Who, has turned its attention to a theatre group’s production of Snow White.

Derek has been treading the boards in a cameo appearance at Trinity Drama Group’s show, staged at Trinity Church, Market Street, Farnworth.

Les Clarke made Derek nine years ago to appear in a production of Mother Goose, before it spent six years in the window of costume shop Fancy That in Heaton.

Les’ wife Susan said: “Some of the cast were only little when it made its first appearance but they are now grown up and still with us at the Trinity Drama Group. It was constructed in true Blue Peter fashion — the arms are made out of kitchen roll tubes, a wire coat hanger and Christmas pudding tubs.

“The lights on top are clear yoghurt pots and the spots on his body are balls from a children's ball pool, cut in half, reinforced and sprayed gold.

“There is wood, cardboard and there must be some sticky back plastic there.”

Snow White is on today at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
