MORE than 100 women attended the launch of a new community group that aims to bring women of all backgrounds together.
The Aashiyana group held its launch event at Pikes Lane Community Club and offered women the chance to take part in taster sessions of activities including Zumba, yoga, henna art, massage and cake decorating.
The new group, which is run by volunteers, aims to offer women from diverse communities opportunities they may not normally have available to them.
Guests on the day included Cllr Rosa Kay, who tried her hand at a number of the activities on offer, including Zumba.
Anisa Vasanwala, chairman of the new group, said: “We felt the event was really well organised and we had an excellent turnout. A lot of heart and soul has already gone into this project.
“We are looking to do many things with the group in the future, including health projects and a play group.”
