STUDENTS could face disruption again as academics at the University of Bolton stage a one-day walkout in an ongoing row over pay tomorrow.
Members of the University College Union (UCU) will be joined by members of Unison and Unite for their third national one-day strike. Two days of action took place before Christmas and members of UCU have taken two two-hour strikes last month and a third scheduled for next Monday.
UCU said an analysis of pay showed the UK lecturers pay in the UK was among the lowest in English-speaking countries.
The row centres over a one per cent pay rise.
UCU general secretary Sally Hunt said: “UK academics are receiving significantly less pay than their counterparts in most other English-speaking countries. Research shows that our universities continue to perform at the very highest levels on the global stage.
“Union members taking strike action are angry that vice-chancellors continue to see their pay increase while pleading poverty when it comes to staff pay.”
