MORE than half of Bolton’s population is overweight or obese, new figures have revealed.

Data released by Public Health England shows 60.1 per cent of adults in Bolton are living with “excess weight” — meaning a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 25.

But Bolton does have one of the lowest rates compared to other boroughs in Greater Manchester.

Oldham had the highest rate with 69.6 per cent and Trafford had the lowest with 59.7 per cent.

Bolton health chiefs say the figure is too high and they will continue to tackle the problem.

A Bolton Council spokesman said: ”We are pleased Bolton has one of the lowest levels of people who are overweight or obese in Greater Manchester and the North West.

"However, the levels are still too high and we are working hard with our partners to help drive these levels down.

"We aim to offer all Bolton residents the best start in life by establishing healthy eating and physical activity behaviours.

"This includes support for breastfeeding, Happy Healthy Toddler clubs, work with Bolton’s early years settings and through the Healthy Schools Programme.

“Also, as a large proportion of the population is overweight or obese we provide effective services tailored for their needs.”

MORE:

By 2020, experts predict about 20,000 people in Bolton will have diabetes. The total is now 17,588.

Childhood obesity rates in Bolton dropped for the first time last year.

Some 20.7 per cent of year six children are now obese compared to 21.2 per cent the previous year.

Why leave fat people alone, if they all look like the person in the photo above they should be forced to go on a dietI personally find fat people disgusting .I am a non smoker but when I see how smokers are hounded it gets me really annoyed . Every one seems to go an about the fumes from cigs but no one ever mentions the obnoxious fumes from car exhausts ( because most folk are too idle to walk anywhere) . Hence they are all getting obese. What a crazy world we are living in.

People are lazy and eating copious mounds of utter 5H1te from McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and the like. My motto is 'Eat 5h1te, look 5H1te'.

Don't come on having a go at me either stating it's hormones, genetics and all that 80ll0x.

There were no fat people in Belsen, neither were there any McD's and the like.

We are throwing money around like confetti into research as to why people are fat. It's simple - too many are too lazy to prepare and cook proper food. They'd rather grab crap from the likes of McDonalds, KFC and the like.

There was only one fat person I knew at school, from the mid 60's up to leaving in 1978. I never saw any fat people away from school, although they must have existed. Then in the very early 1980's the proliferation of
fat food outlets (that is not a misspelling either) started to pop up left right and centre. So did a proliferation of people living from them, eating utter crap.

Force feed them lettuce, tomatoes, veg and fruit etc and they will soon have the weight off.

On a recent trip to China I noticed that most of the people were in decent shape till I visited a major city, they had all the familiar fast food outlets,Macs,KFC,bur
ger king etc.Coming out of a burger joint was the first obese Chinese person I'd seen, huge burger, huge fries, huge drink and huge gut.I know it's a personal choice in what you eat and there's a lot of temptation out there but healthy home cooking will lead to a better healthier life style, and don't blame the Americans, they just invented the crap, you don't have to eat it.

Thank you, it makes a change when someone will admit that car fumes are bad for you. All these parents who shun smoking and smokers, and yet drive there little darlings all over Bolton to various activities, need to wake up and smell the fumes that they are producing. Its great to be green but you are not helping the environment if you drive. But you are bringing up FAT children.

If the Council were serious and given the number of planning applications they've approved historically I doubt if they are. Scrap the back slapping propaganda press that drops through the door sometimes and replace it with a cookbook - followed up by lessons in cookery. if only for future generations sakes. It's the mindset of people they need to change and if that means fat tax, fat tax it is.
Millions has just been spent on the market, encourage people to use it for cheaper groceries, fish, meats. Once people learn that food doesn't have to come out of a tin or be pinged to cook it - by being educated, the need for foodbanks, fat clinics, huge NHS resources and so on will in time, diminish.

It is a combination of environment and genetics, some people are more prone to weight gain given a similar diet...

Another headline ran:

"Impoverished islands of inactivity see about 100 more premature deaths per 100,000 people a year than areas where people exercise most."

Those impoverished islands of inactivity are the result of this and previous government's policies.

That's what happens when The Fat of the Land Politicians cut Wages, Jobs, NHS education facilities, Libraries, Sportsfields, etc, etc, etc.............

Rich Lazy People Become Fat.
