Dave Spikey will cut the ribbon at the newly refurbished Costcutter store in Campbell Street, Farnworth, on Friday.

The stand-up comedian who shot to fame in Phoenix Nights, which also starred Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness, has accepted an invitation to perform the official re-opening following the £400,000 refit.

The outlet is managed by Baz Jethwa, who also runs another Costcutter store in Plodder Lane.

Dave will also present a £1,000 cheque to Bolton Hospice after the cash was raised by Mr Jethwa, his family and Costcutter staff.

Work to refit the store has taken 12 weeks. It now boasts an in-house bakery, a butchery department, fresh and locally-sourced foods and Costa Coffee.

The opening ceremony starts at 10am.
