A LISTED church will once again be at the heart of the community to pass on important teachings.

All Souls in Astley Street, Bolton, is being transformed into a “space age community centre” and is now set to become an adult education hub.

Bolton College is working in partnership with the centre to deliver a range of adult learning courses which form part of the £4.9 million regeneration project of the church — which is set to re-open in October.

Local people are being invited to have their say in what courses they would like to see run in the centre once it is opened.

Inayat Omarji, chairman of All Souls Bolton, said: “We’re aiming to make the refurbished centre a hub for community learning.

“The courses will ideally help people to learn new skills and potentially improve their chances of finding employment in Bolton.

“It’s important that we gain the input from people in the immediate and wider area, so we urge anyone who is interested to complete the online survey.

“Every point made will be considered and used to help shape the future of the centre.”

The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT), a national charity protecting historic churches at risk, has worked with The All Souls Crompton Community Centre and Bolton residents to re-develop the Grade II listed Gothic building.

The trust has secured money from the Heritage Lottery Fund to fund the project to make it a focal point for the community once more.

Work started on the church last September and the new facility will also provide a large events space, meeting rooms, a specialist social media centre and a ground floor cafe.

Sharon Marriott, director of adult and higher education at Bolton College, said: “Bolton College is delighted to announce its partnership with All Souls Bolton.

“We have a proven track record of delivering successful community-based learning courses for adults and look forward to bringing our expertise to the local area.”
