The scene at Essex Street in Horwich
A 25-year-old man is undergoing surgery after he stabbed himself in the neck.
Police were called to a house in Essex Street, Horwich, at 1.30am this morning after reports of a domestic incident.
An ambulance was called and the man was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he is receiving treatment.
The house has now been boarded up following the incident.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said around 10 police cars came to the street at 3.30am, and they had broken into the house.
He said: "There was shouting and a female crying outside the property with what sounded like glass breaking."
Police said they are investigating the incident.
