A SEVEN-year battle for surfaced roads has finally been won by frustrated residents.

Taylor Wimpey and Morris Homes have now finished resurfacing work on the Gadbury Fold estate in Atherton following numerous complaints — but some homeowners remain unhappy.

They say traffic controlling measures put in place are not sufficient and are leaving the estate unsafe.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “The calming system does not calm the traffic — the speed of the majority of vehicles is unacceptable, as the humps in the road are gentle mounds and cars don’t need to slow down to ‘protect’ vehicles.

“Give way markings are needed, as cars rarely stop when they should and the street light directly outside number 117 Gadbury Fold is not — and never has been — working.

“Double yellow lines are needed on the entrance road on to the estate, as people often park towards the junction with the main Gadbury Fold road which is hazardous to other drivers and pedestrians.”

A spokesman for Taylor Wimpey said: “The final surfacing works of the loop road at Gadbury Fold are part of the joint venture agreement between Taylor Wimpey North West and Morris Homes.

“The works have been carried out in accordance with the specification laid out by Wigan Council.

“Concerns will have been noted by the local authority and we, as developers, need to complete all the works to the entire estate, in association with Wigan Council.”
