Bolton's pub of the year revealed

The Bolton News: Bolton's pub of the year revealed Bolton's pub of the year revealed

THE Bank Top Brewery Tap pub in Sharples has been named the pub in Bolton.

Six pubs - The Dunscar Arms in Egerton, the House Without A Name in Harwood, The Bowling Green in Horwich, The Crown in Horwich, The Victoria and Albert in Horwich and the Bank Top Brewery Tap - were all vying to be crowned pub of the year by the Bolton branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

On Wednesday night, in a CAMRA vote at The Spinning Mule in Nelson Square, the Sharples pub was named winner.

The Victoria and Albert, in Lee Lane, had been hoping to win the title for the third consecutive year.

The pub also finished third in the equivalent CAMRA award for Greater Manchester last year.

The Bank Top Brewery Tap was last crowned pub of the year in 2011. Bank Top opened its second pub last year - the Bank Top Ale House - in Church Street, Horwich. It was formerly the Brown Cow.

Great pint . chuffed they won. Maybe next year my local? The Original Bay Horse in Horwich will be challenging for the title. Once again congratulations to Mr Sweeney & co.

The beer tastes like horse wee, there's nowhere to sit and the regulars are all boring old men.
Apart from that it's alright.

Congratulations to the Brewery Tap. Astonished that the brew house on Blackburn Road doesn't get a mention by anybody. Good for food as well as beer. The beer there is great. I wonder why the Flag isn't in the running as well. Though it is a Whetherspoons, the Robert Shaw pub in Westhoughton should also get a mention. Perhaps the Camra men should get out and about (lol)

Bank Top Brewery is wildly overrated. The temperature, quality and taste of their ales is so variable that I cannot take this award seriously. I know of many better ale houses in the Bolton area.

Are you the owner of the Brew House? Fair play its done out nice in there but the beer is shocking. It's One of the few places I've ever been that I couldn't finish my pint. Very poor ales.

It's wildly overrated by a lot of people then. Like somebody further up, who was also complaining about it, said, it'll be standing room only by 6 o'clock tonight. I'm hoping to be in and sat down by then.
