Shock as Tower FM presenters Jon and Vix are axed

The Bolton News: Jon and Vix Jon and Vix

TOWER FM listeners have bombarded the station’s head office and social media pages threatening to switch stations after news that long-standing breakfast presenters Jon and Vix have been axed.

The much-loved duo, who wake up with Bolton and Bury from 6am every weekday, are to be replaced with Total Access presenter Simon Morykin, who made an announcement via his Facebook page yesterday.

Listeners had been left confused as to why the presenters have not been on air since earlier this week.

The Tower FM website currently has no mention of its flagship breakfast show, and a direct link to the old Jon and Vix page is now unavailable.

Jon and Vix are yet to comment officially.

However, Jon Holling tweeted earlier this morning: "Sleep levels up....Caffine levels down. Not getting dressed in the dark. Every cloud!"

Disgruntled listeners have posted messages of shock and anger on the station's Facebook page and even sent emails to its head office.

Michelle Mcloglin said: “As with everyone else here, I have now tuned away from Tower. Listened to Vix for years. Martin and Vix, Brooksy and Vix, Jon and Vix. She has been the constant throughout.”

Paul Greenwood said: “I have just emailed the management about the situation. See what happens now.”

A Facebook page calling for the presenters to be reinstated has also been set up.

Total Access presenter Simon Morykin took to Facebook to tell his fans about his new venture.

He said: “Oh my days! The time has come my friends - time to change radio shows.

"After six amazing years based at Signal 1 and five fantastic years hosting Total Access, I am thrilled to be finally moving back to daytime radio in the North West on Tower FM Breakfast.

"I started this profile around 2009 and you lot have become such amazing friends, your support has been incredible and I know many of you so well, I feel like we're a huge family.

"I'm thrilled to move to a breakfast show - which by the way - will be called Morykin in the Morning. From Monday you can listen atwww.towerfm.co.uk or download the app.

"My final Total Access show will be Friday evening - thank you for all your support on this show and I hope you'll join me in the mornings."

A Tower FM/UTV spokesman said: “Our hugely popular Total Access presenter Simon Morykin is Bolton born and bred and bringing him  to Bolton and Bury listeners for the breakfast show on Tower FM was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down.”

Morykin in the Morning is due to launch on Tower FM on Monday.

I have sent a lot of emails to Trevor James (Controller) and even their head office - and they have not replied to one of them. The Facebook group now has over 200 members, and the feelings out there are of hatred over Tower FM.

We can only live in hope - and hopefully Jon and Vix as well.

Regardless of whether someone is a fan of Jon and Vix or not, this situation is about how Tower Fm treats their listeners. Think a station which respects their listeners would at least make an official statement and try and explain the issue instead of banning them from the air. The silence on their behalf only proves the lack of respect, to say the least. Think they need to remind themselves that listeners are keeping them in business, and getting rid of a popular show won't do any favours.
Another thing is the lack of loyalty between then presenters, as Simon who will be replacing Jon and Vix seems very happy about finally being moved from night shows to mornings.

Not listened to Tower for years.

This will be the 'local' radio station for Bolton and Bury which broadcasts from studios in Wigan, that comes from god knows where (Signal is Stoke based) between 7pm and 6am.

As for broadcast quality it is slightly less amateur than Bolton FM.

I am disgusted by this. I was literally physically sick when I heard the news. And then I put my foot through the radio in a fit of pique. If i can't listen to Jon and Vicky in a morning there is no point in even owning a working radio.

I too have feelings of hatred towards Tower FM despite the fact that it is just a commercial radio station entitled to make whatever programming changes it wants.

Do you remember when they set up a helpline when Robbie left Take That and Geri left the Spice Girls ? I hope there is a helpline for people to get over the loss of Ron and Nicky. They were a beacon of light for literally hundreds of people for about 10 minutes in a morning on the drive to work. What if people can't drive to work and the economy grinds to a halt ?

I hope Tower FM wilt in the face of the opposition to this catastrophic decision and bring Tom and Becky back to the airwaves where they belong.

They probably can't say anything at the moment due to legal reasons - wouldn't surprise me as the times I've heard these presenters, some of the stuff they come out with could be construed as borderline racist as well as the times they try to wind up various sections of the public. Possibly tripped themselves up over something, who knows.

Awww, how sad. Someone needs some therapy. You'll get over it. It's a two bit, tin pot radio station, 'broadcasting' - allegedly - to a two bit town, that's never been any good.

As for some loon stating that the presenters could do the station for constructive dismissal, how the hell would he/she know? No one knows why they are no longer required, apparently. Most of these, if not all, presenters are self-employed. And proving constructive dismissal is a very hard thing to do!

How the station has handled it is exactly the same way all UK based radio stations, BBC or commercial, handle these issues when presenters are sacked, moved on etc. You will NEVER see on any UK based radio stations website where the management say sorry to see you go. Everything is ripped down off the website instantly and all references to whoever stop immediately.

Not listened to it for years and tbh i didn't even know it still existed.

I listened to it in the beginning, but it was NEVER a local radio station for Bury, everything on it was always Bolton Biased...especially the sports news and commentaries. Bury actually got and still gets more local coverage on BBC Radio Manchester. It's Key 103 or Capital music wise for me.
