GUESTS had a taste of the real red carpet treatment for the Mayor or Bolton’s annual Ball.

Hundreds of guests joined Cllr Colin Shaw and his wife, Dee, at the town hall on Friday.

Uniformed youngsters from Bolton Sea Cadets to escorted visitors to meet the Mayor.

For one night only, cars carrying guests were allowed into Victoria Square and to the steps of the town hall.

A collection of atmospheric musical numbers, including The Impossible Dream, Hushabye Mountain and Pure Imagination welcomed party-goers.

After meeting the Mayor, guests enjoyed five-course meal.

The evening included performances from magicians, a casino room and tunes from the Northern Jazz Orchestra.

Cllr Shaw said: “We wanted everybody to enjoy it, do a bit of dancing and raise some money for some great charities.”

Bolton’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Guy Harkin said it was a fantastic opportunity to unite the town.

He added: “It is a great night because everybody forgets about politics and the town comes together as one, as well as raising money for charity. What’s not to like about it?”

The 10 mayors of Greater Manchester, as well as the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Naeem ul Hassan, attended.

Mayor of Bury, Cllr Sharon Briggs said: “I am really pleased to support a fellow Mayor, I am originally a Bolton girl so it is always good to come back to your home town.”

Funds raised from the evening will go towards the mayor’s chosen charities, Bolton Hospice, Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Bolton Society for Blind People and Fortalice.
