REGISTRATION for a further 400 entries at this year’s Ironman UK event in Bolton opens tomorrow.

Organisers have confirmed proposals for a new and extended bike course that will enable 400 more athletes to take part.

Entries will open at 12pm for friends referred by Ironman UK entrants and will remain open for 24 hours.

Any remaining places will then go on general sale at 12pm on Thursday.

As part of the plans and as a thank you from the organisers to the “phenomenal feedback” from athletes about last year’s event in Bolton, Ironman UK are offering priority entries for local athletes from Bolton and Lancashire.

Local athletes should email uk@ironman.com with their home address to receive a priority entry.

After an unprecedented demand for entries at this year’s event, Ironman UK — which is in its 10th year - have worked with the authorities on the new plans, which will see an extended two lap bike course that will take in the villages of Whittle-le-Woods, Croston and Mawdesley.

Having tested the proposed course, Ironman UK 2012 bronze medallist Paul Hawkins said: “This is a pretty challenging but well designed circuit in a fantastic location.

"It will certainly push everyone to the limits as it’s constantly up and down giving little respite.

"It also offers plenty of spectator spots to watch on race day which is great for the athletes."
