MAKING life better for people in the developing world has netted a school two awards.
Walmsley Primary School was marked out as one of Bolton’s leading Fairtrade schools.
The Bolton Fairtrade Foundation held the BAFTA (Bananas About Fairtrade Achievements) event at the Festival Hall in Bolton Town Hall.
Pupil Lewis Morris won the award for Best Recipe with his chocolate and banana cake, with school council leader Jennifer Brookes being named Best Fairtrade Teacher.
Pupil Rosalyn Harper picked up a nomination for the Blackburn Road school for her song, “You’ve Got the Fairtrade in Me”, in the Best Fairtrade Song, Poem or Story category.
The event featured activities for the children, including the chance to meet a banana farmer, live music and dance displays and competitions and raffles.
Miss Brookes said: “It was a really nice day. A lot of our parents came down, and everybody enjoyed the Fairtrade pancakes.”
