A BRAVE mother with terminal cancer is asking for businesses to help sponsor a fun day event in aid of the charity which is supplying her treatment.

Last summer The Bolton News told of Rowena Darby’s cancer battle and the keepsakes and cards she has made for her son Freddie to remember her by as he grows up.

Her one wish is to be around when her son starts school in September — and thanks to the help of chemotherapy and an alternative cancer treatment called Mistletoe Therapy, her cancer has stabilised.

Now she wants to fundraise for Camphill Wellbeing Trust, which supplies the treatment.

The fun day, which is being arranged by Bolton-based company Enriched Events on June 8 at The Barlow in Edgworth, needs sponsors for the day’s activities, including a 10 and 5k run, as well as facilities and equipment hire.

Mrs Darby, who lives with husband Phil and Freddie in Turton, said: “I am helping to arrange a fun day in Edgworth which involves a couple of competitive runs, including a 10k and a 15k, which I hope to be doing too.

“Then after the run there will be all sorts of activities for families to get involved in, such as a rowing machine and climbing wall competition. It should be lots of fun.

“All we want to be able to do is cover the cost of the event and donate any money raised to the charity that has helped my quality of life over the last nine months.”

Michelle Ludwig, events manager at Enriched Events, added: “Rowena’s story has had national coverage since it featured in The Bolton News, so we are aiming for it to be a really big event. If any businesses big or small can help with anything, please get in touch.

“Rowena is an amazing woman, a true inspiration for us all who lives each day to the full. We can all learn from her zest for life.”
