A SHARPLES High School science teacher appeared in court today accused of terror offences.

Jamshed Javeed, aged 29, was charged with the intention of assisting others to commit acts of terrorism and engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention, Greater Manchester Police said.

Javeed, of Cringle Road, Levenshulme, Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of terror offences linked to Syria.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court in London and a preliminary date of April 4 at the Old Bailey was set for his next appearance.

Police investigating a number of people suspected of being involved in travelling to, or supporting fighting in, war zones made four arrests on Tuesday.

Two men, aged 29 and 18, and a 21-year-old woman who were arrested alongside him are still in custody for questioning, police said.

The 18-year-old, also from Levenshulme, and 21-year-old, from Trafford, were held in Manchester.

Police also arrested a 29-year-old man from Oxford.

They were detained on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

A number of properties were also being searched, police said, adding that the arrests were not linked to any domestic terror threat.
