AN obsessive paranoid who raped a young woman at her home has been jailed for three years.

Dean Gwatkin, aged 27,of Aspull, Wigan, met his victim via a dating website and went on to have a short relationship with her — but she ended it because of his obsessive behaviour, which included wearing fake tan and carrying a mirror to check his appearance, even once checking his reflection in a knife while at a restaurant, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

Simon Berkson explained how Gwatkin would borrow the woman’s make up and constantly pressured her into having sex with him.

After she ended the relationship he sent her gifts including a diamond ring and Ugg boots and bombarded her with messages.

She later agreed to see him as a friend but while at her home watching a video he coerced her into having sex.

She initially agreed but then changed her mind and asked him to stop.

Mr Berkson explained that Gwatkin refused and pinned her down on the settee and raped her.

She later complained to the police and described him as “a ticking time bomb waiting to explode”.

Gwatkin pleaded guilty to rape.

Sentencing, Judge Andrew Hatton described his behaviour as “obsessive, paranoid and jealous” and ordered him to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

He also imposed an indefinite restraining order to keep him away from his victim.
