YOUNG fans of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks were treated to an exclusive reading of the little knight’s latest adventure — from the author herself.

Children at The Ferns Academy were the lucky ones to find out first what happens next to Sir Charlie, while youngsters across the country are waiting for it to hit the book shops.

Author Kristina Stephenson accepted an invitation to join year two children at the school from their teacher John Broadbent.

His pupils have been reading the Sir Charlie Stinky Socks adventures, which have inspired a blog, on which the children also posted videos as they play the different characters.

Kristina gave the children a sneak peek at the new book and some clues about it, encouraging the children to guess the plot before reading them the new story.

The excited children even got to see some sketches she has done of the illustrations so far.

She said: “I was privileged to watch year two’s amazing assembly based on my books about Sir Charlie Stinky Socks, and to be allowed to look at all the fabulous work these clever children — under the guidance of their inspirational teaching staff — have been doing over the past few weeks.

“I wouldn’t have missed this experience for the world and I’m so pleased that Mr Broadbent and the children got in touch via Twitter to invite me.”

Kryan Singleton, aged seven, said: “We have loved having a celebrity at our school and to watch our special class assembly.”

Mai Taylor, aged six, added: “Kristina’s new story was amazing.

“It made my mind tingle, but I can’t tell you any more because it is a big secret.”
