RACING fans can battle it out for pole position at a family event being held in Farnworth.

Cherie Beaulieu, from Astley Bridge, and Terry Hobbs are giving people the chance to try their hand at slot racing at The D Havilland Club, Gladstone Road, Farnworth, from noon to 5pm on Sunday.

They held a previous Scalextric event at The Roundhouse, Kenton Close, Halliwell, and are available to set up tracks for birthday parties and social events.

Mr Hobbs said: “It’s just something new and different.

“It’s slot car racing on a bigger scale. We’re doing these public events as a showcase. It’s stuff we can’t do in somebody’s home.

“They are 24ft long and 16ft wide circuits.”

While the pair, from Scalextech, do all the work of setting up and clearing away, children and the young at heart just enjoy the fun bits of racing round replicas of famous grand prix circuits.

The track at this Sunday’s event will be the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, home of the Australian Grand Prix, which took place last weekend.
