THE Bolton Cancer Voices choir is celebrating after it was given a donation by David Wilson Homes North West’s Our Space, Your Place scheme.

The housebuilder’s scheme, which offers support to community groups through volunteer time or funding, provided £500 to help with the daily running costs of the charity choir.

Money will also be used to purchase new polo shirts to give the choir an identifiable image when performing.

Bolton Cancer Voices provides a positive environment for its 40 members, all of who are cancer patients and survivors.

Steve Jackson, Our Space, Your Place Project Coordinator at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to building strong communities in areas surrounding our developments. Bolton Cancer Voices is vital to its members and a place for them to meet people in similar situations to themselves, so we are delighted to be helping this inspiring charity continue its vital work.”

The choir enables those involved to enjoy the challenges and exhilaration that come from performing and have a focus aside from their illness.

Karen Elliott, chairman of Bolton Cancer Voices, said: “At Bolton Cancer Voices we aim to help make cancer patients happy by providing an uplifting environment, which in turn helps them with their treatments.

“As we don’t charge any membership fees, we rely on fundraising and grants to keep Bolton Cancer Voices going. We are therefore very grateful to David Wilson Homes North West for the generous donation as it enables us to continue the choir which we know has a positive impact on our members’ lives.”
