CHILDREN have learned how to keep themselves health, safe and well.

Youngsters from Spindle Point Primary School in Kearsley, worked in teams of mixed ages from reception to year six and learned about fire safety, internet safety, road safety and keeping yourself healthy through salsa dancing.

There were special lessons taught to highlight the theme across the whole school and classes each made a savoury snack to share.

There was a competition to design a healthy and well balanced picnic. The school council chose winning entries from each class and the most popular items were then put together to form a menu.

Each class chose their preferences and the winning pupils spent a morning preparing a picnic for youngsters to enjoy.

Deputy headteacher, Jenny Miller, said: “Surprisingly, all classes chose chicken in their picnic basket instead of a sandwich or a wrap and so we had only three hours to cook 180 chicken legs. The children learned new skills like chopping, peeling and grating, as well as making simple and healthy snacks.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the special activities organised during the week and were able to share what they had learnt with great enthusiasm.”
