THE hottest boy band in Sharples is not One Direction - but Wrong Direction.

The young singers at Sharples school kicked off science week by performing a special STEM song for staff - that's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Young Einsteins also demonstrated how much fun science can be — with cupcakes proving the perfect chemistry during STEM week.

Throughout the week, young people solved a variety of puzzles for prizes, enjoyed a Pi for Pies event as well as taking part in a murder mystery investigation calling on all their forensic skills.

Pupils invited friends and family to work on an investigation with them, using different experiments they had learned in science during the school year to figure out who had killed Mrs Mop.

The week ended with a successful attempt by Year Seven pupils to recreate the periodic table using cupcakes.

Mike Cowley, marketing manager for the school said: “A fast-changing world needs scientists and technology experts and, as a science specialist college, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Week provided a perfect opportunity for the school to promote how technology fits into pupils’ lives and how they can be part of it.”
