GET quacking! This is the message from Turton Rotary Club, which is appealing to clubs, groups and charities in need of funding to sign up to its annual duck race.

The popular fun event will be run at the brook by the side of Bradshaw Cricket Club in June.

There is a top prize of £1,000, as well as other prizes to be won if your duck is the fastest. And race promoter Ray Edge is urging local organisations to get involved.

He said: “It really is a no-lose situation as the Rotary Club of Turton organises and runs the event, prints raffle tickets and provides the prizes.”

The club wants to invite charities, groups and organisations — including schools and sports clubs — to join in selling tickets for the race.

They will keep all monies raised from those sales for their own cause. Last year, more than £8,500 was raised and, this year, organisers want to top £10,000.

The main sponsor, HeightVale Ltd, has donated £500 to the event and Bolton-le-Moors Rotary Club is giving a helping hand, selling tickets at local supermarkets.

Every £1 raffle ticket sold corresponds to a numbered yellow plastic duck.

The ducks will battle it out on June 8, from 11am, over a series of race heats, with the first four ducks from each heat going into the final.
