TWO Bolton organisations are looking for nominations for this year’s prestigious National Diversity Awards.

The Jennifer Charity and AFC Masters have both been approved for separate awards but they now rely on being nominated by members of the public to give their entry more chance of being shortlisted.

The Jennifer Charity is up for the “Community Organisation Multi Strand” category which recognises individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to their local community.

AFC Masters is a football club for disabled people that was founded in 2005 and is up in the “Community Organ-isation Disability” category.

If selected, they will join a number of charities, role models and community heroes from around the country who will be honoured for their outstanding contribution to their communities at the black tie awards ceremony on September 26.

Graham Edgington, who shot to fame as part of the Father and Son act on Britain’s Got Talent with his son, James, set up the Jennifer Charity in memory of his wife who died in 1985 when James was just 16 months old.

Mr Edgington was shocked by the lack of supportive organisations aimed at widowers, so in 2010 he and James set up the only UK-based charity specifically supporting widowed fathers and their bereaved children in the UK.

James said: ”Now is the right time to raise awareness of the charity for those in need of support. To be included in the awards for national diversity would raise the profile and give us more support to be able to continue our work.”

AFC Masters is hoping for success after its entry in the “Community Organisation Disability” category.

The club has teams for men, women, over 16s, over 11s and under 11s, and recently teamed up with Horwich Saint Mary’s to help open doors for them into mainstream football.

Nominations close on July 18 when all entrants go forward to a judging panel for shortlisting.

Those who are successful will be invited to the awards ceremony at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, London, on September 26.
