Food Factory warned: 'Sort out problems or get shut down'

The Bolton News: The Food Factory in Bradshawgate The Food Factory in Bradshawgate

A TOWN centre takeaway has been warned that it could be shut down following a catalogue of police call-outs after closing time.

Food Factory in Bradshawgate was brought before Bolton Council’s licensing sub-committee because of police concerns about behaviour there.

Police applied for the business’s premises licence to be reviewed after an increase in crime and “public nuisance” incidents at the takeaway.

The incidents included staying open after hours, violence and racial abuse aimed at staff from revellers.

But police say staff have cracked down on the problems after being warned that the doors could be closed if standards did not improve.

PC Andy Vernon, from Bolton’s partnership and licensing team, said: “There had been a number of issues involving violence and operating after the permitted hours.

“As a result of discussions between the police and Food Factory’s legal adviser, an operation schedule with stringent conditions has been introduced.

“The premises is no longer a magnet for disorder.

"I am confident if they continue to operate in this way in the future, then the premises has turned around.”

Cllr Kevan Jones, a member of the licensing sub-committee, said: “The Food Factory agreed to everything the police proposed.

MORE:

“Food Factory is going to work in partnership with a team within the night-time economy.

“Food Factory was supposed to shut at 4am, but there had still been people in there at 5am and there had been fighting because people were intoxicated.”

He added: “If anything should happen again we could get them back for another review, but hopefully that will not happen.”

The sub-committee ordered bosses at Food Factory to comply with a number of conditions to prevent further problems.

These include having two Security Industry Authority (SIA) door staff at the entrance between midnight and 4am each Friday and Saturday.

A radio link with the police must be used and the business must also use its own CCTV and save footage for 30 days, as well as maintaining an up-to-date incident log.

So from what I gather in this report the takeaway is open after ours. Then that is the crime.

Let us put this in context. The town centre pavements are often open after time, so are the council up on charges of incoherent irresponsible behaviour of punters intoxicated and fighting in the TC?

I called here on my way home from work one night and ordered some food, I was shocked to notice that there was mould on the garlic bread so I went to inform them and I tried to do these discreetly but the manager was completely rude and started to shout at me which then the rest of the customer knew why I was complaining. After 5-10mins of arguing and he was really shouting at me all I wanted was my money back I was escorted out and told by the "security" guard that I was band! For what trying to get my money back! So who's to say that they aren’t rude to other customers and to treat people like that if they are under the influence then they are going to retaliate aren’t they?

Typical of the Bolton Council BS, the headline should read "Problem takeaway shut down until it sorts it's problems out." I bet the food factory would sort things out pretty quick then? But then again we've got to be careful not to offend the permanently offended!
