A GANG of three men hit a grandad over the head and attacked him while he was babysitting.

The 44-year-old victim was at home when he was confronted and attacked by three men who knocked at his door.

The incident happened at a house in Warwick Road, Atherton, at 10.40pm on Wednesday.

The thugs knocked on the door and, when he answered, asked the victim who he was.

He explained he was babysitting his granddaughter and asked who they were.

One of the men then hit him over the head with an unknown object.

The victim staggered into the living room and fell onto the sofa, where the men continued to attack him by punching him seven times in the head.

They then left, leaving the victim with cuts on his head.

One of the men was white, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, medium build and wearing a black hooded top.

The second man was white, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, medium build, with short brown or ginger hair and was wearing a blue and white patterned top.

The third man was wearing a cream coloured checked top and was white and between 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall.

Det Sgt Neil Lawless described the incident as a "vicious" attack.

He said: “The victim is understandably very shaken by what happened, especially since his five-year-old granddaughter was in the house.

“We’re urging anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately.”
