A TEENAGE girl has been airlifted to hospital after being seriously hurt in a crash.

The girl, who is thought to be aged 15, is believed to have been walking along Chapeltown Road with her family at about 11am when car mounted the pavement and hit her.

The driver is believed to be an elderly man in his 80s who fell ill at the wheel.

She has been taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary in an air ambulance and is suffering from head injuries.

She is in a serious but stable condition.

Police have closed Chapeltown Road in Bromley Cross from its junction with Darwen Road to Bromley Cross Road.

Officers and paramedics are at the scene.

The road has now re-opened.
