FOUR Canon Slade students enjoyed a taste of college life during a young patisserie chef competition.

Year 10 and 11 pupils from nine secondary schools visited Blackburn College for four Saturday morning sessions to get an insight into the facilities and opportunities within the catering department.

Daniel Spencer, Sarah Booth, Olivia Saul and Madison Hackett all tried out their cookery skills while the final Saturday was a competition, with trophies and certificates presented to the winners.

Daniel said: “We enjoyed being in the kitchen and learning basic kitchen skills. It was interesting learning and practising new recipes.”

Blackburn College’s chef lecturer and bakery section technician John Oldham was impressed with the high standards on show.
