THE group at the centre of the conversion of a historic Bolton church into a space- age community centre is inviting the whole town to a family fun day to celebrate the progress of its transformation.

The behind the scenes day has been organised by the newly-named All Souls Bolton — formerly Compton Community Group — on Saturday.

For the first time since building work began, the public will have the chance to look inside All Souls church before renovations are completed in autumn.

Bolton North East MP David Crausby has already visited the church to see the work being done.

The event, which runs from 11am to 3pm takes place in the Cobden Community Centre next to the Astley Street church.

Owner, the Churches Conservation Trust has been working with All Souls Bolton to transform the building into an inspirational place for connecting the community through heritage, skills training, creativity and business.

Behind the scenes tours will run every half hour from 11am to 3pm.

Andrew Suter, All Souls director, said: “This will be a unique opportunity for people of Bolton to get a sneak peek inside one of the most innovative and creative spaces ever built in the town.

It’s the perfect time to tell people about our name change to All Souls Bolton and to demonstrate that we are here for everyone in the town.”

There will be something for all ages, including a free children’s magic show, face painting and balloons.

Building contractors Carefoot Plc will be running practical taster sessions throughout the day in which visitors can try their hand at bricklaying, plumbing and electrical skills.

All Souls will be providing free training in collaboration with Bolton College and people will be asked what categories of courses they may like to attend.

They will also have the opportunity to see some of the photographs and film from recent community projects, and find out how to get involved.
