A BOLTON drummer’s band was signed by one of the world’s most powerful music promoters after he saw their spoof videos online.

Rixton, featuring former Canon Slade School pupil Lewi Morgan, is managed by Scooter Braun — the record label owner who discovered Justin Bieber on YouTube when the Canadian singer was just 12.

The four-piece has been making waves on both sides of the Atlantic since they released a cheeky video for song, Make Out, a parody featuring Katy Perry, Bieber, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.

It has already clocked up more than one million views.

The 26-year-old, who grew up in Four Lane Ends, said: “We started off just doing covers on YouTube for a laugh more than anything.

“We made them little personality pieces, taking the mick out of ourselves.

“We didn’t post them with any intention, it was just a bit of fun to pass the time and convince our parents we had real jobs.

“The one (Scooter) said sealed the deal was a cover we did of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

“We did it barbershop style, dressed up in stupid jumpers and reindeer antlers.”

Their debut single, Me and My Broken Heart, already a top 25 airplay hit in America, is set for release in the UK on July 20 followed by an album later this year.

Speaking after arriving back in the UK from Hamburg and before flying out to Paris, Lewi said: “We went over to America and promoted there, it seems to have taken off really well.

“Radio seemed to take an interest quite early. It wasn’t intentional with breaking out there first. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind really, crazy.

“A year ago, we were in a studio in New York and suddenly got a phonecall from Scooter.

“He’s one of the biggest managers in the world.”

Lewi, whose parents now live in Atherton, started playing bass guitar at the age of 11, before switching to drums and had lessons at Harker and Howarth music shop in Goodwin Street, Bolton.

He played with a number of bands throughout school and went on to play gigs around the North, including the Alma Inn in Bolton, before joining Rixton three years ago.

Signed to Interscope Records, they have been working with producer Benny Blanco, who has written and produced hits for artists including Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Britney Spears and Kesha.

The band — made up of Lewi, lead singer/guitarist Jake Roche, from Carlisle, guitarist Charley Bagnall, from Essex, and bassist/keyboardist Danny Wilkin, from Blackpool — played a sold-out gig at Manchester’s Deaf Institute recently and are looking forward to a summer of festivals, including Wireless and British Summer Time.
