RESIDENTS have received bogus letters warning them that their cars could be clamped for parking outside their homes.

The letters, delivered to addresses in Vigo Avenue, Daubhill, state that as of May 5, a security firm has taken over the control of parking in the road and surrounding areas and will be enforcing restrictions.

Residents have been told that “there will be no more pavement parking in this street due to planned operations in this area” and that “single file parking on one side of the street is advised”.

The “planned operations” refer to the start of work to build four new football pitches, changing rooms, toilets and a car park at the Hulton Lane playing fields.

Builders from the council will fully drain the site so that the new pitches — two for adults, one for youth football and one for juniors — can be installed as part of the £474,000 development.

The author of the letter, under the name of Stalwart Security Ltd, states that the firm would carry out “random 24 hour patrols and checks in the area” and that parking restrictions including clamping could be used while the council’s work was ongoing.

Bolton Council has dismissed the letter as a fake.

Cabinet member for the environment Cllr Nick Peel said: “As we suspected this letter is entirely bogus “And it has nothing to do with the council or its contractors.

“The road in question is adopted and the council has no plans whatsoever for any restrictions while the work is taking place.

“Any residents should simply ignore this letter.” Alison Heap, of Vigo Avenue, said she was not sure whether to believe if the letter was genuine.

She added: “Looking at it we did think it was fake.”

Hulton councillor Andy Morgan said: “This is just a cheap punt.

“We will do what we can to find out who is behind this.”
