THE popular Sky Ride event is set to return to Bolton next month — and cyclists are being urged to sign up.

Thousands of people will once again be gearing up to cycle the traffic-free route in the town to celebrate all things cycling.

It will be the third year the event has been held in Bolton and the town is one of 15 places hosting the events in the UK this summer.

The event will see town centre roads closed as cyclists take to the streets.

Sky Ride ambassador Sir Chris Hoy said: “We want more people to enjoy riding a bike. We’ve made it easier than ever to get out on your bike and spend quality time with your family and friends.

“Sky Rides close towns and cities for big bike events so you can ride safely on traffic-free streets, with a huge festival atmosphere and loads to do both on and off the bike.”

Everyone who registers their free place online will receive a Sky Ride lanyard that unlocks a fantastic bundle of on-the-day benefits and goodies.

The first 1,000 people to register will also receive a limited edition Sky Ride gift on arrival at the event.

Cllr Anthony Connell, Bolton Council’s cabinet member for sport, said: “It doesn’t matter how old you are, how old your bike is, or how fast you ride, there’s something for everyone and I would encourage everyone to join in the fun filled day whether to cycle the route or just to cheer everyone along the way.

“People in Bolton have really taken cycling to heart after the success of Bolton’s Olympic champion, Jason Kenny and I am sure that locals will be out in force supporting the event again.”

Participants will also get a free bike safety check worth £15 from Halfords.
