A MOTHER hanged herself three months after developing severe anxiety and a fear of never getting better following the death of her grandmother last year, an inquest heard.

Bolton Coroners Court heard that Charlotte Caton had trouble sleeping after her grandmother Sheila died from cancer in October, 2013.

In November she had a panic attack while she was a passenger in her brother’s car, saying at the time she had a “scared feeling” in her chest which did not go away.

Miss Caton saw a number of GPs at Breightmet Health Centre, including Dr Gillian Rink, who said she had been prescribed different types of sleeping tablets, beta blockers and anti-anxiety medication by various doctors at the practice as she looked for a “quick fix”.

Miss Caton’s cognitive behavioural therapist Helen Mann said that on her last appointment on January 27, she said did not want her life to end but she also did not want to continue as she was, and was “scared she would not get better”.

On January 31 this year Miss Caton’s partner Graham Garne and her son Declan became concerned when she had not returned home.

After checking her grandmother’s house in Brantwood Drive, Breightmet, they found the 38-year-old dead.

Senior coroner Jennifer Leeming said: “I am satisfied that Charlotte took her own life while the balance of her mind was disturbed.

“It doesn’t appear that this is something that Charlotte would have done in the course of her ordinary life prior to becoming ill.”
