STAFF at Harper Green School are going the extra mile in memory of a pupil Leah Rothwell who lost her battle against a rare children’s cancer.

Leah died just two weeks before her 13th birthday in 2012 and The Leah Rothwell Foundation was set up in her in her name to help finance research into Rhabdomyosarcoma and other soft tissue sarcomas that affect young children.

Now staff at the Farnworth school, which she attended, are running the Greater Manchester 10k on Sunday to raise funds for the foundation.

Headteacher Andrew Foster said taking part in the run was about doing something positive in Leah’s memory to raise money to help find a cure for the condition and reflected the school’s ethos of care and giving which it develops in its pupils along-side helping children achieve good grades.
