A MACHETE and a hunting knife have been seized by police after they raided two homes in Deane.

Police swooped on a mid-terrace home in Woodham Walk, at about 8am today and searched the home after getting tip-offs from the public, but no drugs were found.

A second home, an end terrace home in Deane Church Lane, was also searched just after 9am.

Police seized a hunting knife and a machete but no arrests were made.

The raids were part of the police's "week of action" in Rumworth, which includes Deane and Daubhill.

The week involved police getting feedback from residents about crime and safety issues and then acting on their concerns.

The raids followed environmental health officers clearing out The Bunker, also known as Arabian Mist, in Gilnow Lane, Deane, with the support of police yesterday.

Checks have also been carried out at stores across the area to ensure nobody is working illegally and to check whether illicit tobacco and alcohol are being sold.

Sgt Andrea Ennis, from Bolton Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The warrants were executed following information from the local community.

"You have told us your concerns about drugs and we take any suspected drug dealing seriously.

“A machete and a hunting knife were seized from one of the properties and they will be destroyed.

"We will not tolerate drug dealing in this community, which inevitably leads to drug-related crime.

"We carry out warrants regularly which is usually on information from members of the public.”

Sgt Ennis asked anyone with information about drug-related crime to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
