VOLUNTEERS were cut out of a car by firefighters at a dramatic crash rescue demonstration.

The roof of the Nissan car was removed by firefighters in the car park of the Masjid Noor ul Islam Mosque in Prospect Street, Halliwell.

The demonstration was part of an ongoing driving safety campaign organised by police, the fire service, Bolton Council and Bolton Council of Mosques.

The campaign was launched in February following two serious crashes where people were seriously injured.

A crash caused by drivers racing in St Helens Road, Daubhill, last July, was one of the incidents which sparked the safety campaign.

Eleven people were injured including a 12-year-old boy who suffered life changing injuries.

A DVD was produced about the Daubhill incident, explaining the impact it has had on the lives of those involved, the community and emergency services who attended.

The next event will be held at the car park of Taiyabah Mosque in Blackburn Road at the junction with Draycott Street on Saturday, June 7.
