ORGAN donor chiefs are calling on more Boltonians to sign up to save a life.

NHS Blood and Transplant has praised The Bolton News campaign for helping to sign up 1,500 new donors for the Organ Donor Register.

Now they are calling for more people sign up and let their relatives know about their wishes.

A spokesman for the NHS Blood and Transplant said: “It's fantastic that since the campaign in Bolton began around 1500 people have joined the NHS Organ Donor Register.

"It is great that they have taken this action, but we also need them to also make sure their loved ones know about their donation wishes. Please have that conversation with those closest to you. We need everyone to be proud to donate, when and if they can.

“It’s great to see so many people signing up to the Organ Donor Register.

"The Bolton News campaign has really brought organ donation to the forefront in Greater Manchester and we hope many more will sign up as a result and it is vital they tell their families about their organ donation decision.

"Three people die every day due to the shortage of organs, so it is vital that people sign the register and make their decision known to their family.”

The Bolton News launched its campaign to get 5,000 people to sign up to the Organ Donor Register in January ahead of the Westfield Health British Transplant Games in August.
