A WOMAN who lost her mother to cancer has raised £1,400 for Bolton Hospice by having her head shaved.

Jackie Greenhalgh, who works for the hospice as a catering assistant, went ahead with the daring challenge at the Seven Stars pub, in Harwood.

And she more than doubled her target in the process, having originally aimed to raise £600.

Mrs Greenhalgh’s mother, Sylvia Ratcliffe, who died from bowel cancer, aged 76, in August last year, was helped by Bolton Hospice staff and Macmillan nurses.

Mrs Greenhalgh, aged 49, of Christchurch Lane, Harwood, said: “I always knew I wanted to do it in memory of my Mum.

“I can’t believe how much I raised from it — I didn’t expect that at all. It was an emotional day.

“ I saw a lot of people I hadn’t seen for ages.

“Everybody who turned up to support me was fantastic.”

The head shave was watched by Mrs Greenhalgh’s son and daughter, her husband, her brother and sister as well as friends and supporters.
