A KEARSLEY guitarist’s band has landed its biggest ever gig, supporting four major acts after being signed by a music studio.

Alternative grunge rock group Purge, which features Bob Hunter, aged 20, will support Razorlight, The Feeling, Toploader and The Hoosiers at Chester Rocks on Saturday, June 7.

The band has been signed by Castle Rock Studios’ representation division, which is headed by managing director John “Stret” Stretford.

Bob, who went to St James’ School, said: “I’m pretty excited. We’ve been waiting for a long time and it’s finally paid off. It’s kind of like a gateway to the next thing.”

The band members are Daniel Smith, from Astley, on drums, Josh Worth, from Eccles, on bass and backing vocals, Haiden Mchale, from Salford, on lead guitar, and Bob, on guitar and lead vocals.

They all met at Pendleton College and started the band in June, 2012.

To celebrate landing the gig in Chester, they will provide a free return coach transfer for anyone who would like to help make it a memorable day for both Purge and their fans.

Bob said: “That’s a massive thing for us as well. It’s between 5,000 and 12,000 people, the biggest crowd we are going to play to.”

Since forming, they have had two successful years of winning various battle of the bands contests, including the Headlander Festival, Stockport, and they were also invited to perform at Real Radio XS’ Mockfest, in front of a die-hard rock audience of nearly 5,000.

Manchester’s Hard Rock Café also confirmed regular book-ings for the band, following a stellar performance at Hard Rock Rising.

The band, whose influences include Pearl Jam, White Denim, Kings of Leon and Nirvana, then came to the attention of Castle Rock Studios, an independent company based in Alderley Edge.

Stret, the Castle Rock Studios boss, said: “From the first time I heard the band I was hooked. The groove of their music took me back to my vinyl-playing days.

“Bob is totally captivating. He plays with fun rippling through his body and you can’t help but smile back at him and let the band take you through a vortex of foot-tapping, head-shaking funk-rock.”

Tickets for Chester Rocks, at Chester Racecourse, on June 7 are £28.50, including the return coach transfer, and can be purchased by calling Castle Rock Studios on 01625 590877 or booking online at skiddle.com
