CHANGE-ONLY pay and display machines could be replaced by “more modern versions” at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
New machines where people can pay on their mobile phones are being considered by directors at the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
Hospital bosses agreed the old machines were “inconvenient” for many visitors. Carol Davies, chair of the trust’s audit committee, told the board: “A lot people will turn up to park and won’t have any change.
“One thing people nearly always have on them is their mobile phone.
“I think change-only machines can create unnecessary stress for people at a time of high anxiety.”
Mark Harrison, a non executive director at the trust, added: “It’s becoming the norm to pay for parking on your mobile phone.”
Visitor parking charges were recently hiked up to cover the cost of extending parking facilities at the hospital.
The shake-up also saw an increase in the number of parking attendants patrolling the site .
