A FUN day in aid of an eight-year-old boy with a rare skin condition has raised more than £1,000 and moved him one step closer to completing his bucket list.
Rhys Williams suffers from a condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB), which causes painful skin blistering and leads to open sores.
The courageous youngster was all smiles at the event, held at JW Retailers in Farnworth, getting involved with the carnival-style games and had his face painted.
The Johnson Fold Primary School pupil, who drew up a list of things he wanted to achieve earlier this year, hopes the money will help him tick off more items on his list, such as recording a CD of his favourite songs, meeting One Direction and Olly Murs, and going to Florida.
Newly-married mum Tanya Williams said: “The fun day was to help raise money for Rhys’ bucket list. He really enjoyed it — he had his face painted like an Angry Bird and he managed to win six goldfish at the hook-a-duck game.
“The thing about his list is, it’s not all about him. He asked for his sister to have a pampering day and he asked for me and his dad Mark to get married.
“He never stops smiling despite being in so much pain. I’m so grateful to all the people who came to support Rhys to help him reach his target of completing his list.”
As well as the games dotted about the indoor market, manager of the store Phil Payne and colleague Paul Gilston had their hair dyed, raising more than £300.
Phil said: “I decided to dye my hair orange because it’s Rhys’ favourite colour, and Paul has gone for bright blue.
“We just want to do anything we can to help Rhys achieve his bucket list — he’s such an amazing young man.
“We only expected to raise £500 but we have more than doubled that, which is fantastic.”
