COMIC book heroes and other popular characters including the Hulk, Iron Man and Harry Potter took to the racing track in Bolton School Boys Division’s charity fun run.

The school regularly raises money for good causes with the fun run event and this year pupils chose Bolton Hospice as their charity of choice.

Pupils completed alternate laps of the school’s athletics track dressed in their outfits and in the end raised more than £2,000 for the hospice.

The rain did nothing to dampen spirits and the boys pushed themselves to their limits. The junior school’s head teacher Stephen Whittaker said: “At the start of each year the school council discusses the charities they would like the school to support and the boys vote for the charity they feel should benefit every year.

“Many of the boys have family or friends connected with the hospice and it was therefore an obvious choice. In addition, the hospice is only round the corner from school and feels like our neighbour.

“Despite being very tired by the end of the race, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event from start to finish — especially when the rain eased and the sun made an appearance shortly after the start.”

Representatives from the hospice will now be invited to the school to receive a cheque for the money raised.
