A GARDEN destroyed by “cowboys” has been turned into a stunning oasis — thanks to Alan Titchmarsh.

The horticultural legend came to the rescue of Waqas and Roxanne Hasheni after they fell victim three times to unscrupulous gardeners.

The couple, from Angelbank, Horwich, appealed for help from Mr Titchmarsh’s Love Your Garden ITV show.

And now they, along with daughter Amelia, finally have an outside space to be proud of thanks to Altrincham designer David Andersen, who has been commissioned by some famous names including Ringo Starr.

Love Your Garden gives families with a complete garden makeover in only four days.

Mrs Hasheni, who is five months pregnant, said: “We have had three disasters in the past with our garden. We’ve had two cowboy gardeners and a third who we thought was reputable but he completely messed everything up.

"But David was amazing. He has put our dreams into reality. He listened to the kind of things we said we would like, and it looks fantastic.

“We have a sun-bathing area, a lovely green patch of grass, a barbecue area, a dining area and coloured lights, which make it look beautiful in the evening.

“Alan Titchmarsh was also lovely. He’s such a charming guy and was genuinely interested in us, even asking when the baby was due.”

Mr Andersen, who has also worked on BBC and Channel 4 gardening shows, said: “It was quite a dramatic makeover in the end but thankfully they’re really happy with it.

“The family said they wanted a family garden, but they also wanted to be able to entertain. They love barbecues and eating out so a dining area was a high priority.

“We also put in a water feature, a sun-bathing area and mood lighting to give the garden a warm atmosphere.

“They were great to work with and really open to ideas. I could see that they trusted me, which is really important when you are doing such an overhaul.”

Mr Titchmarsh added: “This garden works really well, particularly the way it combines both contemporary elements and the very practical needs of a family garden.”

n The new series of Love Your Garden starts on ITV on Tuesday, June 24.
