A CAR salesman drank bottles of brandy laced with cannabis twigs to help him get to sleep.

Joseff Fernley, aged 29, who was said to have a severe cannabis habit, would drink after leaving the twigs to soak for a couple of months, magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Tina Cunnane, said father-of-two Fernley was spending £200 a month on his unusual drinking habit.

Police uncovered the recipe when they raided his home in Worsley Avenue, Little Hulton, last month.

Mrs Cunnane told Manchester Magistrates Court that bottles and snap-bags filled with cannabis were found in his bedroom.

Fernley pleaded guilty to drug possession and was given an 18-month conditional discharge with £85 costs.

He had suffered from sleeplessness after the unexpected death of his father.

Magistrates told him they were “very concerned” about his drug habit and advised him to seek professional help.
