FLOYD Mayweather’s planned visit to the Reebok Stadium, where he would have been the star attraction at a £200-a-head sportsman’s dinner, has been cancelled, according to reports.
Mayweather has yet to make any comment while organisers of the event, which was meant to be part of a seven-date nationwide tour of Britain by the world’s number one pound-for-pound boxer, have not confirmed the visit has been called off.
But, according to the Daily Mail, Mayweather was forced to scrap his plans after encountering visa problems.
Mayweather, pictured, was due to be in Bolton on June 23 – an appearance that fuelled speculation that he was close to finally accepting the challenge to fight local hero Amir Khan, whose camp had expressed an interest in attending the Reebok event.
The precise nature of the visa problem, which is reported to have forced the cancellation, has not been specified, but Mayweather recently served a prison sentence in Las Vegas for assaulting a former girlfriend, who is the mother of one of his children.
