BOLTON could suffer a severe soaking tomorrow as weather chiefs issue a warning of heavy thundery rain across the region.

Initial thundery outbreaks may occur from midnight onwards, but forecasters predict this will develop into intense rainfall during the morning.

In places, the storms could drop up to 40mm of rain within two or three hours, possibly causing flooding, but many areas may escape the rain altogether.

Sunday is likely to far calmer, with only light rain forecast.

The mini food festival in Victoria Square this weekend has been affected by the forecast, with outdoor cookery demos cancelled.

Simon Rimmer will still be doing his demo at the Lifestyle Hall in Bolton Markets, between 12pm and 12.30pm, and at 2.30pm he will be chatting with fans at a meet and greet.

Street performers have been moved from Victoria Square into the Lifestyle Hall.

Additional activities for children are being held in Crompton Place between 11am and 3pm.

Balloon modelling and face painting will also be available in the Market Place between 11am and 3pm.
